Louis F. D'Onofrio is an advocate, having learned the art of advocacy from some of the best attorneys in the country.  He is a Member of the firm, rejoining Bennett, Bricklin & Saltzburg LLC after having started his career here in 2003.  He has spent a career in the courtroom and has taken dozens of cases to verdict before juries and judges in multiple states.  Most recently, Lou proudly served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Delaware Department of Justice, where he served as the Assistant Unit Head for White Collar Crimes, as well as a Deputy in the Wilmington and New Castle County felony trial units.  He received the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award for his work along with the Division of Revenue in, amongst other prosecutions, obtaining the first State Tax Fraud jury verdict in over a decade in Delaware.  Lou also served the citizens of New Jersey as an Assistant Prosecutor in Burlington County and continues to practice in courts throughout New Jersey.

Diverse but related experiences in his career allowed Lou to represent both plaintiffs and defendants in civil matters, as well as government and criminal defendants.  Along with his wife, Heather K. D'Onofrio, a Principal at Post & Schell, Lou ran his own law firm for nearly a decade where they were trusted local counsel for national firms in high stakes, complex litigations.  Lou tried his first civil case to jury verdict as an Associate of Bennett Bricklin, achieving a defense verdict before a Philadelphia jury in 2004.  He has argued hundreds of motions and taken hundreds of depositions, sometimes in person in multiple time zones in one day.  His peers have consistently recognized him as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer® Rising Star[i] from 2012-2018 and a Delaware Today Top Lawyer.  He has provided legal commentary for local television news outlets, and his cases have been featured in print media.

Lou graduated cum laude from Temple Law School in 2003.  While at Temple Law, he was a published member of the Editorial Board of the Political and Civil Rights Law Review.  He was part of Temple's esteemed Advanced Trial Advocacy Program and tried cases as part of the SEPTA Tort Litigation Clinical.  He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Rhode Island where he was a Centennial Scholar recipient, having double majored in Political Science and Philosophy.  Lou is a native of Mount Sinai on Long Island, New York, where he was awarded All-Suffolk County Academic Team status in Track as a sprinter.

When not practicing law, you might find Lou running local roads and trails, cheering for his kids on field hockey and lacrosse turfs, or playing with the family dog, Blaze.
