James P. Shay is an associate in the firm’s Philadelphia office, where he is a member of the Bad Faith and Insurance Coverage team.
Jim represents a wide-range of insurance carriers in bad faith litigation and insurance fraud matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His practice focuses on first- and third-party property damage and UM/UIM cases, as well as pre- and post-litigation coverage analysis and claim investigation.
Prior to joining the firm in 2019, Jim was an associate at a high-volume regional creditors’ rights firm, where he represented the interests of mortgagees and other secured lenders in state foreclosure and U.S. Bankruptcy Court proceedings. Jim’s practice shifted to insurance defense in 2017, when he joined the SIU and Property Litigation department of another Philadelphia-based defense firm.
Jim received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law in 2015 and is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars.
Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he spent four years as a staff reporter, senior writer and print sports editor at The Daily Illini.
A native of the north shore of Chicago and lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan, Jim spends most of his spare time at ice rinks throughout Greater Philadelphia or planning his next trip to the backcountry.
